Safe & Clean Water
I was sent this pitcher and filter set and immediately started using it. I now only use it. I love it. I really noticed a fresher taste in my tap water as soon as I poured it in my glass. The chlorine smell was gone. No longer do we think we are at a city pool! Our city water supplier must use massive amounts of chlorine. That is the number one reason I started buying bottled water, the chlorine taste is so bad in our tap water that you would gag while trying to even take a small sip. Plus all of the other nasty things in it , like Fluoride and Mercury. It is just scary. But, now we can drink our tap water and know that it is saving us money and it is so easy to use.

Off-Grid Heat During A Snowstorm
We had a huge snowstorm and sleet overnight. The local news was warning of power outages. We were fine and have a code red for the roads so couldn't go anywhere even if we wanted to. The one time that the lights flickered I got my Vesta Self-Powered Heater out and got it started. I used 3 of the Sterno fuel cans. It heated right up and the fan started blowing. It heated up my tiny house very well. If the power had gone out I would have had this going already. I really like this Vesta Self-Powered heater it worked very well. Great way to get heat in an emergency. Having a few ways to have heat is the best idea.

Winter Camping
Camping during the winter takes more planning than during the warmer months. Follow these tips to ensure that you are ready for anything that the winter months might throw at you:
• Check the weather forecast before you go. Prepare for anything that might happen with the weather. Have warm clothing, dry clothing, blankets, heat, etc.
• Tell someone where you will be camping and when you’ll be back. Let someone know exactly where you will be camping and for how long. Have an alternative communication just in case your cell phone has no service.
• Pack more food, water, clothes, and firewood than you think you’ll need. You never know if you might get stuck or what might happen. You could get wet somehow, so make sure you have extra clothing.
• Make sure sleeping bags and equipment are rated for the conditions. You can get some really great sleeping bags that are rated for very cold weather.
• Layer your clothing, beginning with a wicking layer, followed by insulating garments, topped by a wind and/or waterproof shell. Layers are so much better than just wearing one heavy layer.
• Know the signs of frostbite and hypothermia. Be on the watch for signs of them.
• Drink plenty of water. It can be easier to get dehydrated without realizing it in the cold. Bring clean water with you and also have a way to get clean water with a personal water filter.
• Prepare warm and hearty meals. A great way to keep warm is to have warm food and fill up with hearty food.

Prepare Your Vehicle
Now that our car is paid off and we own it, we are seriously outfitting it for if we have to bug-out or get stuck out somewhere. Like, during a winter storm, etc. We now have 2 rubber made totes in the trunk that are not too heavy. We put camping gear in them , ways to cook, food items, power bars, and some other items that our family will need in a situation like that. Even if we are just out and decide to go camping we can. Our family lives right by a state park and sometimes when we go visit them we camp there and have cookouts. Tons of fun. Now we are prepared for anything. But, if you are going on a trip there are some things that you should do to prepare your vehicle:
Make sure the gas tank is full before you set out.
Check all of the other fluids in the car.
Have a bug-out bag type thing in your trunk.
Keep a took kit and small shovel.
Have a flashlight and the batteries that it needs.
Road flares and a good item to have too if you have car trouble they could really come in handy.
A first aid kit.
I have just put some rope and bungee cords in our trunk and we all wear paracord bracelets. My oldest son even has his shoes tied with paracord. Pretty good idea. Always has them on hand ( or foot.)
Since this winter has been so bad , I also have a bag of kitty litter in my trunk. It has really helped me a few times. I am on my second bag. It really helps when you are stuck on the ice and need something for traction. I don't even want to think about how much it would have cost me to get a tow. Thank God I had the idea to keep that bag of kitty litter in the trunk.
Some personal hygiene items would be a good idea to have on hand also.
You never know what might happen. Be prepared for ANYTHING!!!!

Christmas Gift Idea - Handmade Wooden Bead & Maze Toy
Little Ones love these so much. My Little Man still has his Wooden Bead & Wire Maze Roller Coaster
that he got when he was about 2! He will not let me get rid of it for nothing. You can make one for a toddler that you know for very little money and very easy.
Use A piece of hardwood for the base. It can be any shape you want to make it. Drill 6 holes into the bottom of it that are the same size as your heavy gauge wire. The wire needs to have one end put into one side and secured on the bottom. Put some brightly colored wooden beads onto it and then twist it around , like a roller coaster or maze. Put it through one of the holes on the other side and secure it on the bottom. Repeat this with 2 more wires. Make it fun and twisty. Use bright colored wooden beads. Which come in all kind of styles! They even have some that are painted with the ABC's. Maybe put the child's name. That would be neat. A personalized, homemade gift. Something that will be loved.
