SHTF Preparedness

Step-by-Step Guide on How To Build and Equip Your Own Underground Root Cellar To Survive A Disaster

Disaster can strike at any minute. There are thousands of nuclear missiles that are ready to launch at the push of a button and any one of them could spell the end of the world. Global Warming is wreaking havoc on our climate and causing tornadoes, hurricanes, and even tsunamis. On top of all of this, there are terrorist incidents with very angry groups of hostile people taking hostages or releasing harmful toxins into the air that could easily kill you and your family in an instant if you are not prepared.

Among all these things, there are natural phenomenon that are completely out of our control as human beings-- things like asteroids, or super-volcanoes, or earthquakes. All of these things are out of our control, but rest assured, that if any of these disasters occurs, you will find that people become increasingly hostile to the rest of the population. You could easily find hostile marauders searching for food or resources should any of these disasters take place.

That's why it's so imperative that you have some sort of back-up plan to keep you and your family safe during these times of chaos that could occur at any minute.

What you need is a safe-haven. What you need is a bunker... on a budget. It needs to be equipped to withstand multiple kinds of disasters, and it also needs to be equipped to outlast a lengthy time of unrest.

The situations we will cover together are

• The basics of cellar construction.

• Design challenges

• Beginning smart construction ideas

• Starting construction process

• How to stock your cellar

• Furnishings & comfort

I Needed A New Rug! Frugal DIY!

I was needing a new rug of some sort to go between the living room and kitchen. Nothing fancy, just something to cover where someone had spilled some coffee.

I was at the Dollar Tree and noticed some little throw rugs and grabbed 3 of them that matched. Thinking I would just lay them there.

But, when I got home I had a light bulb go up above my head. Get out the Sewing Basket and sew them together and have a bigger and more solid rug.

I turned on an episode of Haven on Netflix and got to sewing the longer sides together. Leaving the fringe on the outside. Just a quick stitch by hand and now have a new rug that fits perfect for what I wanted it for. Plus, it only cost 3 dollars!!!

Frugal home design at its best!! You could easily do this with as many rugs as you want.

The Pandemic Preparedness Guide

The Pandemic Preparedness Guide was a free book for the kindle when this post was written.

Unlike many ebooks on Ebola or Influenza Pandemics here on Kindle, this was not some hastily thrown together 20 or 30 page pamphlet written to capitalize on a crisis. It's been in the works for years and involved a lot of research. This 270+ page book is intended to give readers a better understanding of Ebola and Influenza viruses, including: When does a virus become a pandemic; what will the world around you look like during a pandemic; what response can you expect from the government; and how can you start getting prepared for it now - before all hell breaks out on the earth. When that day comes; and make no mistake about it, it is coming in one form or another, will you be prepared and know what to do? Or will you be helpless, hungry, and in the dark like most of those around you? The old adage that ‘knowledge is power’ couldn’t be any more appropriate than where a pandemic is concerned, but you don't have to be caught off guard - the choice is yours.

Most people don't know that historically, a severe pandemic occurs on average, every 39 years. Yet it's been 47 years since the world faced the last major pandemic, so we’re living on borrowed time, and the clock is ticking. The experts in the field are saying that it isn't even a question of 'if' a pandemic is going to come against the world - it's a matter of ‘when’ it's going to happen, ‘where’ it will begin, and ‘how' bad will it be? But beyond deadly viruses during a pandemic, you’ll also be facing dangerous people who are neither concerned nor inclined to prepare for anything; people who expect that the Government will take care of them, as they may do with each check that arrives in the mail every month. But when those checks stop coming, how will they handle that dose of reality? How will you handle it? Will you be among them, or will you be ready?

Do you remember the Rodney King riots, or what happened after hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans; how society fell apart and armed thugs roamed unabated in the streets? Perhaps you've seen the protests and riots breaking out in various parts of the country after police shot an unarmed man in Missouri. Make no mistake about it, the time is going to come when trouble and mayhem will be happening all over the nation - we seem to be steering towards sort of calamity.
And should Ebola, a Bird Flu, Swine Flu, or some other deadly virus start passing easily from person to person, in that day you will see people fighting in the streets over cough medicine, pain killers, or even a can of beans. When a pandemic becomes more than just a headline on your nightly news, when it’s infecting people in your city, some are going to die, and not just from whatever form the pandemic arrives in, but from starvation, a lack of medical care, and social unrest the likes of which we can't even fully imagine.

The good news is that at this moment at least, there's no need for you to panic. There are measures you can begin to take right now, starting today, to get your family and your home prepared to face a Pandemic Influenza Virus, Ebola, SARS, MERS, a biological terrorist attack, or most any other eventuality that may be lurking in the shadows. Knowledge is everything right now, and the learning curve is in your favor. So whether you start here with my book, or somewhere else, learn all that you can to ensure that you and those that you love and care about will be around for the future, rather than filed away as a statistic.

So let me urge you get this book and read it, but not because I want you to spend $3 of your hard earned dollars on this e-book (you’ll save more than that in the first month if you buy razors), but because I want as many people as possible to become educated on this subject so that they'll stand a chance when it arrives, and because I don't want to see you or anyone else perish due to a lack of knowledge.

Be prepared, be safe, be healthy, and may the Lord God bless

Alternative Weapons

This has been an ongoing argument of my hubby and me. Weapons. He is of the thought to have guns and only guns and then stock up on ammo. OK but, what if you get caught out and don't have all of your ammo on you or you run out of ammo and can't get anymore? I am of the thought to have guns and alternative weapons. I have several aluminum baseball bats by my front door.

You can also use a shovel for a weapon, a hatchet, a machete, knives, tire iron, wooden bat with nails put into it. Anything can be made into a weapon and then you don't have to worry about running out of ammo.

How To Build A Fireplace

You first have to find a good and safe location in your home to build a fireplace in. Knock out the wall and get started.Fire Places: A Practical Design Guide to Fireplaces and Stoves Indoors and Out will help you with building one.

What more appealing scene can you conjure up on a wintry day than a pair of comfortable armchairs pulled up to a crackling fire while wisps of smoke curl from the chimney top? All your senses are in use--the sight of the flickering flames, the sound of the crackling logs, the warmth on your face, and the fragrance and taste of wood smoke. The hearth truly is the essential core of every home, whether it is an actual fireplace or merely a mantel displaying the treasures and trophies of intertwined lives. Long past the days of strictly utilitarian purpose, fireplaces and stoves are a design feature in their own right. They are available in an array of styles, sizes, and colors; offer a variety of fuel choices; and feature benefits beyond mere aesthetics, including heat and cooking. Fireplaces and heat sources are also widely found in many rooms throughout the house, including the family or living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom, as well as outdoors. And the latest innovations in fireplace and stove technologies make having one no longer an expensive proposition.
While the building market is seeing growth in the fireplace market, so too is the remodeling marketplace. In fact, many homeowners are refacing their existing fireplace, upgrading their wood fireplace to gas, or simply installing a new faux fireplace where there wasn't one before. In this book readers will find hundreds of examples of all types of indoor fireplaces--from wood to gas, freestanding, and ventless--and stoves, both wood and pellet. In addition to gorgeous photos of a full range of fireplace styles, materials, and decor for indoor and outdoor fireplaces and stoves, solid information on practical designconsiderations--maintaining a fireplace or stove, remodeling an existing fireplace, safety, converting a wood-burning fireplace to gas, and the like--are explained in detail, making this the only book on the market to offer the breadth of content on both the design and practical components of all types of the latest indoor and outdoor fireplaces and stoves. Aesthetic and practical design considerations for hearths and mantels, built-ins and storage, lighting, and accessories like screen, brooms, and bellows are also covered. A thorough glossary, resources, and index provide reference-like information.
