Do You Have A Meeting Place If SHTF??

What if you are separated from your family and others in your household during a disaster or any other type of calamity? Do you have a place set up where you can meet up?

Call a family meeting tonight and talk about this. Plan for if SHTF while you are not home and what if you can't get home. Plan for if you have no cell phone service. How will you communicate etc? Have a meeting place that you all can get too by walking. Just in case there are no vehicles.

One good thing to do , is test this plan out several times. Make sure it works and by testing it out you will also find out what doesn't work. It has to be a great plan, in case you can't use your cell phones or any other type of communication. Your meeting place should be somewhere that is central to where everyone is already at everyday. Like schools, work, etc. The meeting place should also be a safe place. Also plan for if someone is at the house most of the time. Like , me , a stay at home mom. That is part of our plan. Kids and dad all have a meeting place and , if I can, I need to stay at the house and wait on them to get here. We have walkie talkies that I have here at home and a set kept in the car. They can talk to me when they get close enough and let me know what it going on and if I should leave and head to the meeting place. We have tried it out 2 times now and also hubby calls me up on the radio when he gets close to town just to make sure they still are in working order. I don't have a cell phone. Got rid of it a couple of years ago. So I am used to not having a way to communicate with others when I am not home. Get to the safe place quick and get back together , than you can go from there.

Prepare Your Vehicle

Now that our car is paid off and we own it, we are seriously outfitting it for if we have to bug-out or get stuck out somewhere. Like, during a winter storm, etc. We now have 2 rubber made totes in the trunk that are not too heavy. We put camping gear in them , ways to cook, food items, power bars, and some other items that our family will need in a situation like that. Even if we are just out and decide to go camping we can. Our family lives right by a state park and sometimes when we go visit them we camp there and have cookouts. Tons of fun. Now we are prepared for anything. But, if you are going on a trip there are some things that you should do to prepare your vehicle:

Make sure the gas tank is full before you set out.

Check all of the other fluids in the car.

Have a bug-out bag type thing in your trunk.

Keep a took kit and small shovel.

Have a flashlight and the batteries that it needs.

Road flares and a good item to have too if you have car trouble they could really come in handy.

A first aid kit.

I have just put some rope and bungee cords in our trunk and we all wear paracord bracelets. My oldest son even has his shoes tied with paracord. Pretty good idea. Always has them on hand ( or foot.)

Since this winter has bee so bad , I also have a bag of kitty litter in my trunk. It has really helped me a few times. I am on my second bag. It really helps when you are stuck on the ice and need something for traction. I don't even want to think about how much it would have cost me to get a tow. Thank God I had the idea to keep that bag of kitty litter in the trunk.

Some personal hygiene items would be a good idea to have on hand also.

You never know what might happen. Be prepared for ANYTHING!!!!

Focusing on teaching the basic concepts of emergency and disaster preparedness the author utilizes amazing artwork and several short story-lines that follow the fictional Bill Jones and his family as they navigate their way through a series of emergency and disaster events, culminating in the outbreak of a Zombie Apocalypse.

Plan and Prep: Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse walks the reader through basic planning and preparation techniques and attempts to answer most of the more basic questions before they are asked. Areas that are often overlooked by beginners are explored, and some of the more common misconceptions are discussed. Although not a "Survival Handbook", this guide will provide real world plan and prep ideas and solutions that anyone can add to their prepper toolkit.

Food Storage Recipe - German Potato Salad

We like to eat this year around. This weekend I made some for us. Had baked chicken, buttered corn, and German potato Salad. Great home cooked meal for hubby who was home for the first time in 2 weeks. Trucking has kept him busy the last month.

German Potato Salad

NEED:

2 or 3 pounds potatoes, cut in 1 inch pieces

1/2 pound bacon

1 small onion, chopped

4 medium sweet pickles, chopped fine

4 boiled eggs, chopped

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon celery seed

1 tablespoon sugar

4 tablespoons vinegar (apple cider vinegar works best)

1. Peel potatoes and cut into 1" pieces. Cook in boiling water until done. Drain.

2. While potatoes are boiling, chop eggs, pickles and onions. Add salt, pepper, celery seed, sugar and vinegar. Mix well.

3. Slice bacon into small pieces and cook until well done, or slightly crisp. Drain off most of the fat.

4. Add potatoes and bacon to egg mixture. Mix gently to coat potatoes, being sure not to crush them. Serve warm or cold.

Anyone watch the last episode of The Walking Dead? If you did, than you probably seen them tear the car apart and one of the things that she grabbed was a mirror. Which , really was a great thing to do. You can actually start a fire very easily with a mirror and some tinder. In fact , you should have a small mirror in your bug-out bag. You can get them cheap - at the dollar tree - and be sure that you always have a way to cook some food. Maybe, even a snake!

Survival Training: 24 Easy to Learn Methods for Learning How to Start a Fire, Create Firestarters and Make Waterproof Matches

Survival Training: 24 Easy to Learn Methods for Learning How to Start a Fire, Create Firestarters and Make Waterproof Matches was a free book for the kindle or the free kindle reading app when this post was written.

Can you start a fire without matches?

In survival situations being able to build a fire is one of the skills that can mean the difference between life and death. It is something that can be learned as practice makes perfect. With some patience, making a fire can become a technique that you can readily add to your arsenal with or without the use of matches.

Will you keep your head and follow directions?

Of course this does mean getting your hands dirty and quite possibly burned at times too. Above all though, the real keys are attention to detail, a great deal of patience and being aware of your surroundings.

Without a doubt, fire is one of the 3 most necessary elements in survival situations along with shelter and water. It provides a number of things both physical and mental including: warmth, heat to dry clothes, a way to purify water, a method to cook food, smoke to signal a rescue party, a means to melt snow for drinking water, comfort and security, a way to repel wide animals and light to see or light a torch.
