Food Storage Recipe - Chicken TVP Rice Dish

I have several large #10 cans of TVP in all flavors. My favorite is still the Taco TVP, but I use the chicken and beef also.

Here is one for the chicken TVP

1/2 cup long grain brown rice
1/2 tablespoon dry onion
1/8 teaspoon garlic
1/8 teaspoon poultry seasoning or thyme
1/2 tablespoon dry parsley
1 chicken flavored bouillon cube
1 tsp olive oil
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 cup TVP

Directions
In a 2-quart saucepan combine all ingredients and bring the mixture to a boil. Place a lid on the pot. Reduce the heat to the lowest possible flame. Simmer, covered until done or for about 45 minutes.

Food Storage Recipe - TVP Meatballs

My little one will not eat Spaghetti unless it has meatballs in it. So I had to find a good recipe for making some and I wanted one that used TVP. Something that I have in my food storage. I used a bit more garlic than the recipe calls for.

Tvp Meatballs

8 ounces by weight of dry textured vegetable protein
1 ¾ cups boiling water
1 small onion , diced
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 teaspoon minced garlic
½ teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon cilantro
salt and pepper
½ teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
½ cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon oil (for frying the onion and garlic)
¼ cup oil (to fry the meatballs)

Directions:

1
Boil your water and add it to the TVP and let it rehydrate for at least 10 minutes.
2
Saute the onion and garlic in the 1 tbsp oil. Add spices and mix well.
3
Add to the TVP mixture. Add in the flour.
4
Mold into 1 inch size meatballs. Press them together hard to keep them from crumbling.
5
Fry in the 1/4 oil turning meatballs around to cook all sides until crispy and golden brown.
6
Yields about 3 dozen.

You should already have a safe room set up with food and supplies in it. Have plenty of duct tape, gas mask, and more. Have a room that can be sealed up good. Hopefully you have one that has no windows so that all you have to seal up is the door and any vents. Also make sure you have boredom busters in the room. My grandparents had a HUGE basement in their house and half of it was underground and not under the house. So my grandpa put up a thick wall that he built! Put up paneling and hid a door into that with the paneling over it. No one even knew it was there. I did not even find out about it until I had lived with them for a few weeks one summer. He had it equipped with EVERYTHING. Even had a ping pong table in there. But , it was a great place to have been shut up in for any length of time.

I always watch to see if the people who bought that house after my granpa died and my grandma got put into a nursing home ever put it up for sale. They have not yet. :( But, I keep watching.
