Food Storage Recipe - Presto Pasta Primavera

This is a recipe that I absolutely love. You can add anything you want to it. I have added chicken, ham, polska kielbasa, left over steak cut up, and more. Or just leave it a veggie dish.

Presto Pasta Primavera

about 6 ounces of pasta - macaroni, penne, or spirals work the best

1 can of diced tomatoes flavored with basil, garlic, and oregano

1 can of cut green beans, drained

1 can of sweet peas, drained

1 can of sliced carrots, drained

cook the pasta and drain.

Heat up the cans of veggies and tomatoes while the pasta is cooking.

Mix in the pasta and heat through.

You can either serve it like this or add a meat. Have fun with it. You can even change up the veggies if you want. Add a can of mixed veggies or whatever.

Gas Prices Too High - Have A Staycation!!

With gas $4.09 here in our small town we will most likely not go anywhere on hubbies vacation. Which, gas will probably even more at that time anyway. So we are trying to come up with some Staycation ideas. These ideas are some that we have come up for ourselves to do this summer. You can come up with your own on things that you know your town has too offer.

Go "Camping" in your backyard. Set up the tent and have fun. Little kids really like this.

Go to a local pond and feed the ducks. Fish if you can. We have a local pond that is about 3 miles from our house and you can also fish there.

Take kids to the park - our park is within walking distance, so that could be something that we could do and the ice cream truck will be driving by there too soon.

Find out what the library will be doing for the kids this summer. Ours has reading programs for prizes and in the summer they have a movie night every Friday night after they close. Pretty fun and free.

There is a local Church in our town that also has movie nights in the summer. They always show great kid's movies. and it is free.

Take kids to the local farmer's market. Let them pick out the veggies they want to munch on.

County fairs are always fun. Check to see if there are any local flea markets too.

Go to a local pool.

Go play basketball or tennis at the local park.

Teach your kids how to sew, bake, cook, wood working, and more.

Have a family board game night.

Have a video game night. We love playing Wii bowling and that is something that the whole family loves to do.

This summer we are wanting to take one day and go to the local Apple Orchard. It is about 10 miles round trip from us, so not too bad. They have strawberry picking, hay rides, petting zoo, a park for the kids, and a restaurant.

Have a yard sale.

Fly a kite. Our house is on a hill and always seems windy enough to fly a kite. Maybe let little one make his own kite and then fly it.

You get the idea. When you start thinking of local things to do for a family staycation you will be surprised at how many things you can up with. Save money and stay close to home.

EMP Attack While Family Far Apart - What Too Do??

With my son down in Florida for Spring Break it has me wondering what would happen if there was an EMP attack. How would he survive and how would we be able to get to him? Needless to say , I have had some very scary thoughts going though my head the last couple of days. I am hoping that it would not be as bad as every says it would be. Some things I have read say that if it happened it would not take out as much as we think it would and then others say we would be back in the dark ages. So we need to prepare for the worst! Our car is a 2006 so it would most likely be done for. Cell phones would most likely not work. I have read Lights Out and it got pretty bad in that book. Florida is a 12 hour drive from where we are right now so how would we possibly get to our son when all that we could do is walk or ride bikes? I know some things to do to be prepared here at home , EMP Survival: :How to Prepare Now and Survive, When an Electromagnetic Pulse Destroys Our Power Grid and Disaster Preparedness for EMP Attacks and Solar Stormsare great books that have some tips and information in it. I just do not want to think of what would happen if we were all separated from each other. Lucky enough, my husbands trucking stays within about 3-4 hours away from home on any given day. But, I guess the one thing that we all need to do is plan with our families on what we would do if we are far apart from each other. Not sure how too plan for it and what we could do about it, but we are going too have a family meeting when he gets home on Sunday!!!

The Importance of Pet Survival Kits

When it comes to emergencies, humans are not the only form of life that needs to be protected. While it is important to ensure that we all have emergency survival kits, it is also important to create pet survival kits if you own an animal. Our pets bring many things into our lives - protection, comfort, joy, and companionship are among the most common. Pets are dependent upon their pet owner for their care, their food, and their quality of life. Unfortunately, when a disaster or another type of emergency occurs, it is not at all uncommon for a pet to be forgotten. Pet survival is often taken for granted. If you own a pet, it is absolutely essential that you know the importance of pet survival kits and how to create one.

Start with the Survival Plan

If you are interested in ensuring pet survival during the event of an emergency, the first consideration that should be made is a survival plan for the animal that you are responsible for. First, you should determine a location in or around the home where you will place your pet should an emergency occur. Once you have established this location, it is important to place stickers on or near a door that will inform any type of emergency management worker where your pet will be located. Additionally, it is absolutely vital to ensure that you have the numbers and addresses of any and all pet care providers, animal doctors, and shelters that you may need during an event that puts your pet's health and safety at risk. When creating pet survival kits, it is important to include the details of the survival plan.

Essential Elements of Pet Survival Kits

There are several essential elements associated with pet survival kits. The first component of this kit should be a picture of the pet that you have. This will be extremely important should you lose track of the animal and it comes up missing. You should also ensure that you place all the medical records and shot records associated with the animal in the kit. In emergencies, it is common for accidents and sicknesses to occur that could impact pet survival. In most instances, it is important to have any and all medical information regarding your pet in an easily accessible location so you may eliminate the extra time that it takes to get medical assistance for your pet.

When creating pet survival kits, it is important to ensure that you have food and water rations available for the animal. It is also important to ensure that you have no less than a two week supply of food and water for the animal. It is also important to include items that will keep your pet comfortable during an emergency. Examples include a pet bed, pet blankets, and even toys that your pet enjoys. You should also include items that will assist in maintaining and/or transporting your pet during emergency situations. Examples include a carrier, a leash, a chain, collars, cages, and portable fences. By taking the time to consider pet survival, you will be able to create a kit that will assist in sustaining the life of the animal that you and your family have made part of your family.

How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse

Many people proudly boast of their preparations for catastrophic emergency scenarios, such as nuclear war, plague, or - tangentially related - a zombie apocalypse. Yet, it is a safe wager that the majority of these individuals do not really believe they will experience these events in their lifetime, nor have they mentally prepared themselves for their aftermath. When the zombie apocalypse does happen, your mental state will factor just as heavily on your survival as will your material preparedness.

By keeping a bug out bag handy for every member of your family, you not only have room to pack clothing and accessories for every individual, but you also increase your carrying capacity for basic survival gear, and increase your chance to survive zombie apocalypse. Redundancy is important to mitigate the effects of forgotten bags, as storing several of the most critical items (knives, medical supplies, fire starters, water purifiers, flashlights, weapons, and much more) in multiple packs ensures that you will not lose access to these supplies if one or two zombie survival packs are left behind (or their wearer is brought down by the enemy).

Day 1: This day will be pure entropy. The horrific realization of what has happened will alternately drive the vast majority of us to despair, madness, or some combination of the two possibly leading to an incurable vegetative state. All-out war against an enemy that has risen from death for purely cannibalistic purposes will strain the resolve of all but the hardiest Americans. Because there is simply no telling what situations you will face in the weeks, months, or even years following a zombie uprising, your survival preparations should be undertaken primarily with the following objective: surviving Day 1.

If you can survive the earliest stages of the apocalypse and escape the associated carnage, you should be relatively well situated to weather the remainder of the battle. Your best choice will be to grab whatever supplies you have squirreled away for this day in your zombie survival pack and flee the city and surrounding suburban areas immediately. Only by reaching a place of relative (if only temporary) safety will you be afforded the opportunity to establish a long term survival plan and come to terms with what has happened. Then you can make a more informed decision to either hunker down and weather the storm, or bug-out in search of a safer and much more viable haven.
