Organize Your Food Storage
This is what I am going to be working on the rest of the week. I need to get my stockpile of food organized. I do not have a lot of room to do this in, but I have been using one corner of my bedroom and boxes. Not very good , but I have to work with what I have. I am saving some money back , taking the savings from using coupons, to order me some of these can organizers. Might take me a while to do that, but for now I am going to make a list for each box and tape it on the outside. Making sure to note the dates. Maybe that will make it easier to rotate. Each box will have a different type of food in it. One for canned, one for condiments, and so on. I will probably be working on this the rest of the week. It should be worth it though. I just wish that I had more room. LOL.
Here is a great Food Storage Inventory List that I am going to print out to put in my kitchen binder. That way I do not have to run to the boxes every time and look for something. I can just get this out and check. Also should make my grocery list making easier.

Cooked with Beef TVP
I finally tried out the beef flavored tvp. I fixed a taco hambuger helper. First thing that you have to do is mesure out 2/3 cup of water and bring that to a boil, then you add 2/3 cup of the tvp to that and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. It will soak up all of the water. Then you can add it to whatever you need it in. I thought that it was good. I could not really tell a difference in the taste or texture of the hamburger helper. My kids did not know at all. Cleaned their plates. The only thing I will say - my youngest, 5 years old, has a weak stomach anyway and he got a tummy ache from dinner. He has had that taco dinner before with no problems so it might be an allergic reaction to the tvp?? Not sure yet, will test some things out to see. But other than that it turned out well. I was really surprised at how well it cooked up and tasted.

Emergency Food Storage
Establishing and maintaining a storing place for your survival gear and food rations can be a daunting task if you don't follow steps in the organizational process. First you're going to need a space that is large enough to store a few storage cabinets as well as some open storage units.
A good place to have a large pantry storage area for food can be difficult since most homes don't have this capacity. You'll need to possibly salvage hidden wasted spaces around the home that you never thought of before. Places like under the stairs leading to the basement or a second floor can be ideal for extra storage, by just adding some basic load bearing shelving.
Other areas where storage capacity can be increased are under beds, closets, garages, basements and crawl spaces. Attics are generally a bad place to store foods unless you can control the temperature changes and high humidity. If you're deciding on storing in your attic or if it's the only extra space you have, you'll need to make sure that the attic is reinforced for loading bearing weight, especially where you cabinets or shelving will be.
Other important parameters that must be understood when staging this area is, humidity control, temperature control, light control, security, air flow and protection from pests which include insects and rodents. Food that is exposed to warm temperatures for an extended period of time will cause an early shelf life. The ideal temperature would be around 50 degrees and in a north faced walled room which is typically cooler. A typical basement is around 60 to 65 degrees, so some temperature altering will have to be made to make it ideal for grain and other food supply storage. It's important to make sure that your storage area remains in the dark for most of the time besides inspection. Besides can foods make sure any foods stored in a paper product will have a secondary airtight container to hold out moisture.
Also make sure that all airtight food grade containers will be protected against insects and rodents. Learn how to safely fumigate your raw foods and grains since many times insect eggs or larva can be purchased with the grains. Remember to use the oldest food stored products first and date all containers so you properly rotate your food supplies.
Finally, make sure that your food survival storage area is well secured. Consider using electronic lock cabinets to house some of your more precious foods and it's important not to let strangers or even neighbors know that you are storing food for security purposes.

Homemade Flour Tortillas - Frugal & Easy
I figured since I have a stockpile of all of those Tortilla Stuffers , that I need to learn how to make homemade tortillas. I found some great recipes online and they are very easy and frugal to make.
3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
about 1 cup of water
Stir together the dry items and the gradually start adding the warm water until the mixture gets kind of crumbly. Start working the dough with your hands until it holds together. Put out on the counter and kneed it until it is smooth.
Divide it into 12 pieces that you need to shape into smooth balls. Let them rest for about 10 - 15 minutes.
To roll out each ball you kind of flatten the ball down and then roll it out until it is about 9 inches round. Carefully peel it up and place it on a preheated griddle or good heavy frying pan. Right away there should be blisters on the tortilla , turn it over and press it down with your spatula , turn it over and press down again. do not let them get too brown and if they do start to get too brown turn the heat down. Stack the cooked tortillas inside cloth , like a towel and put them into a plastic zip-loc bag to steam them.
See how easy that is. Now anytime you need some tortillas you can make them for almost nothing and easily.

Roku Is The Best Thing I Ever Bought!
I love our Roku!!! It is the best thing. I shut our cable off and now just have this little powerhouse of a box that is better than cable. I have the Netflix on it, so that means we just pay 7.99 a month for watching movies etc on the Roku box. The Roku has tons of free things on it too, like news, games, Crackle, weather, and more. My favorite it the Justin.tv ap that I found for it and you can watch anything you want to watch on it. For FREE!! I can watch Foxnews, Alex Jones, The Walking Dead (LIVE on Sunday nights) and so much more.
Now, they are having a sale and you can get one for $49.99!! Wow! That is a great price. This would be a great Christmas gift!!

Convert An Electric Sewing Machine To Non-Electric
I often wonder what I would do if there was no power and I could not sew! I love to sew! So I did some searching and I found some really great post online about how to convert your sewing machine into a treadle. I think this is a really cool idea. If the crap did hit the fan this would be a good service to be able to offer others also, be able to sew things that people would need. Like diapers, clothes, blankets, etc. Trade that service for something that you need.
I found some great links and info on How To Convert An Electric Sewing Machine To Non-Electric With A Treadle (Foot Pedal) or Hand Crank and some other great info by searching on Google. Might be something that someone can do if their electric one is broken. I wish that I had found this info before I threw my broken one away. :(
