Mini Farming: Building A Backyard Farm And Growing Organic Food At Home was a free kindle book when this post was written.

Being able to maximize the potential of such a small space can give you the huge benefit of growing your own food, including fruits, vegetables and even grains to build healthy, fresh and delicious meals, but also greatly reduce food costs overall for you and your family. This also means that you don’t have to live far from appealing urban areas, either, essentially providing the benefits of a rural lifestyle in an urban context. Furthermore, it is even possible to raise small farm animals such as chickens, pigs, goats or rabbits to make your mini-farm complete.

This short book will provide you with:

1) The basic guidelines of building your own farm
2) Beginning with soil preparation
3) Structure and composting
4) Growing your seedlings plant placement
5) Selection as well as the potential to integrate farm animals into the sustainable cycle of your farm.

It also includes some tips on using precious natural resources, such as water, efficiently.

As climate change and sustainability measures become main topics of focus across the globe, it is imperative that the individuals also seek to reduce their carbon footprint themselves. By growing your own organic fresh produce, you reduce emissions associated with transportation of the product, improve biodiversity, especially through the reduction of pesticide use, as well as provide an example for friends, family and the community that could help to inspire others to maximize the potential of their space and utilize natural resources efficiently, including reusing and recycling waste to establish a balanced cycle for your sustainable mini-farm.

Food Storage Recipe - Hobo Venison Stew

Using venison as stew meat is basically the same as using any other meat. You can soak the venison before using in milk or vinegar, so it won't be too tough. But other than that just throw this recipe into the pot and let the stove do the work. You could easily do this over an open fire or on top of a wood burning stove.

NEED:
  • 3 pounds cubed venison or deer meat
  • 1/4 cups bacon drippings
  • 1 minced garlic clove
  • 2 sliced onions
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 4 quartered carrots
  • 1 jar small white onions
  • 2 pounds cubed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

Rinse, drain and cut or cube the meat, garlic cloves, onions, carrots and potatoes and accordingly. Set the vegetables aside until needed.

Brown the cubed venison or deer meat in a large stewpot using a little of the bacon drippings. Add drippings as needed while browning the meat. Add just enough water to cover the meat. Add the minced garlic clove, sliced onions, bay leaves, salt, pepper, allspice, carrots, small white onions, cubed potatoes, and Worcestershire sauce.

Stir and cover with lid. Reduce heat to low. Simmer for about 1 ½ to 2 hours or until the vegetables and meat are tender. Stir occasionally. Add more water if necessary. Thickening the gravy is easy when you add a bit of flour with a small amount of water to form a smooth paste and then slowly add it into the stew by stirring until well combined.

Prepper Barter Items: Ultimate Prepper Barter Items : Stockpile and Barter Handbook for Emergency Food Storage & Survival in SHTF Situation was a free book for the kindle when this post was written.

The notion of bartering is about as old as civilization itself. Wherever there is a need for a product or service, there comes someone waiting in the wings to provide the immediate fulfillment of that need. Bartering is ultimately at the route of all economic markets everywhere and we have honed this skill to such a fine degree that in times of civility and peace, humanity has managed to transform bartering into the provision of goods and services for one of the most coveted things on earth: money.

But in the event of a catastrophic disaster, whether it’s delivered by way of nature or by man’s own large scale self sabotaging, money will hold less and less value both physically and psychologically.
Most people can only stockpile so much. Even the most advanced of all preppers face the distinct possibility that they will run out of goods at some point or have them stolen by someone who is just that much smarter or sneakier.

Signs In The Sky

If you are caught out in bad weather it could be fatal to your survival. There are times to move on and times to make shelter. There are certain things that you can watch for in the sky to predict short-term weather conditions.

" Red sky at night , shepherd's delight, red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning. " is a very old weather saying. A red sky at night indicates that the atmosphere holds very little moisture. Meaning that there will be no rain or snow with in a couple of hours. A red sky in the morning is a warning that storms are approaching.

A grey morning is usually a sign that the day ahead will be dry. A grey sky in the evening indicates rain.

A clear sky at night is usually an indication that the night weather will be good. Towards the end of summer it can be an indication of frost.

If you have a very clear sky one night followed by a night with very few stars visible , it could mean that the weather is going to be changing.

An enlarging corona around the sun or moon can be a sign of good weather and a shrinking corona around them can be a sign of rain.

Learn the signs in the sky and you can increase your chances of survival. You will know when to hunker down in a shelter and when you can move on.
