Declutter For Survival
This might just be a good idea. Declutter your home and life could be a great survival tip. Just live on the bare essentials. Get used to it now, so that when the SHTF you already know what it is like to not have everything. I am trying to get less dependent on the internet and other electronics. I know this will be the first thing that I ( my whole family) will miss when SHTF. So , if I get used to not using it as much I won't miss it as much. I am also getting rid of a lot of things. We are a way too material society. We all have too many things that are just not useful. Or have too many things. Why do I need 3 and 4 of one item???? that I do not even use anyway and would not be useful if SHTF!! This is my New Years Resolution. I will declutter our home. Of everything that we do not need. I will also declutter our bills, our minds, our bodies, etc.
What is you survival resolution for 2012????

I have not posted a new recipe in a while. I have been so sick.

1 28 oz can of peeled diced tomatoes, do not drain
1 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes, do not drain
1 can of great northern beans , drained
1 can of pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 can of black beans , drained and rinsed
2 tables spoons of chili powder
Optional - 1 small can of green chilies
In a large saucepan combine all of the ingredients and mix them up well. Bring to a boil , then lower heat to a simmer. Let simmer for about 10 minutes.
I always serve this with corn bread.

Food Storage Recipe - quesadillas
I took a photo of this but my camera is acting up again. So I just have to explain this.
quesadilla
1 cup of Taco Mix from Emergency Essentials You have to mix it up like the directions on the can. Easy enough.
1 can of diced tomatoes
shredded cheese
6 flour tortillas. I get mine at the Dollar Tree because they do not need to be kept in a fridge.
Take the tortillas and put butter on one side and lay it in a heated frying pan. Place the Taco Mix that I also added a can of diced tomatoes too. Just to doctor it up a bit.
Spread shredded cheese on top of meat. Place another buttered tortilla on top of that , butter side out. Fry in pan until lightly browned.
slice it up into slices, like a pizza.
I served ours with some noodles that I put chili on top of. I just used canned chili. Not a fancy meal , but it is filling and my family ate it. That is all that matters.

An Idea For Those Empty #10 Cans!!
I have a #10 can that is almost empty so I was trying to come up with an idea of what to do with it. I had read some where that you can make survival kits with them. Great for putting in your vehicle. Especially now that it is winter. We live in a pretty rural area and if we go 1 mile out of our town than we are in the "boondocks". We are at least 30 miles from any other town, so if anything happened we would be stuck for a while. When the winter weather gets really bad, like last winter, we were stuck. Our small town was at a stand still. It only has one truck that can do the roads and they ONLY do the "highway" that goes through our town. That is it.
Some things to put in the can:
A candle or one of those heat cell fuel cans so that, if you have to, you can use the can for a small stove. Put the heat under it to melt snow.
Emergency Thermal Blanket
Water Proof Matches
A multiblade folding knife
a small roll of tape
granola bars, peanuts, or a couple of those Millennium bars.
Emergency Whistle
First Aid Kit
Glow Stick
A couple of Hand Warmers
A couple of Aqua Blox
Emergency Light And Tool
Some small packages of tissue paper.
This is just an idea of what to keep in your car survival kit. This is a great way to use your empty #10 cans. Does not take up a lot of room in your vehicle.
You should also always have a fully charged cell phone if you are planning any winter driving. A small tool kit is good to have in your car too. Jumper cables. anything that you can think of.
