Food Storage Recipe - Ham & Pasta Skillet

I love one skillet meals. Easy clean up and they usually taste good. Plus they are easy to make.
This one is one of my son's favorites.

Ham & Pasta Skillet

1 can of cream of broccoli soup

1 cup of milk

1 tablespoon of spicy brown mustard

1 package of frozen broccoli cuts

1 1/2 cup of cooked ham strips from a canned ham

3 cups of cooked shell macaroni

In your medium sized skillet mix the soup, milk, and broccoli. Over the medium heat bring this to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cook until the broccoli is tender. Add the macaroni and ham and heat it through.

Great meal.

Alternate Forms Of Lighting

I really do not like that idea of having to use those nasty CFL lightbulbs. So I am trying to come up with other ways to get light. Some of them are obvious, Candles and oil lamps
. But I also want some other ways to get some light too, that might not be so dangerous in a kids room. I already use some solar lights. I put them out on my back porch during the day in a flower pot to charge up. Then at night I bring them in. They work as great night lights in a kids room. I got some at Dollar Tree a while ago and wish now that I had bought every single one that they had. I had only bought 3 of them to see how well they work, found out they work great and 2 days later went back and they were sold out. :(
I am thinking of getting one of these, Designers Edge L-949 10 LED Rechargeable Solar Panel Shed Light. I could put it in our southern facing kitchen window with the panel outside the window to charge it up. That would work great. I just wonder how much light it puts out.
We also will be doing a lot more things that do not require a lot of lighting. My son bought me one of these for Christmas, Ritelite LPL792XLB 5-LED Computer and Book Light, Metal and it surprisingly works great. So I can sit and read at night and not have to turn on a bright light. It helps too, when others are watching TV or playing the Wii and do not want the lights on. I can read in peace.
I am still trying to think of ways to get alternate forms of lighting. I have a pretty good night light in the bathroom, that already keeps us from having to turn that light on too often. So I am always thinking. Those CFL bulbs are dangerous and are bad for you. I have had 2 of them given to me over the last few months and both of them lasted about a week, blowing up! Which cannot be safe plus have they have mercury in them.

Iowa Caucuses & Homemade Noodles

That is how I am spending my night. Watching the Iowa Caucuses and making homemade noodles!! I think that this is an exciting time. So much can happen and change in the coming year. This is a very crazy time to be alive. We all need to do a lot of praying and making homemade noodles. LOL That is how I spend time when I am nervous. Making noodles. How do you spend time when you are nervous??

Homemade noodles

1 beaten egg
about 1 tablespoon of milk
1 teaspoon salt
and flour

I use enough flour to make a good dough for rolling. I roll it out thin and then I use my pizza cutter to slice it into long thin strips. I just leave the noodles out on my kitchen table to dry for a few hours. Than package them up. I usually use this recipe a couple of times at one time. To make as many noodles as I can. We use a lot of noodles.

I hope that everything goes well tonight. With the Caucuses and my noodles.

Food Storage Recipe - Basic Cake

Simple cake recipe for a yellow cake. This is a great one to make. Easy and frugal. I always have icing on hand for this one. Or you can make your own icing.

Basic Cake

2 cups of flour - I buy mine from the Dollar Tree because it is unbleached. For some reason our local grocery store does not have unbleached. Weird.

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup of vegetable oil

1 1/2 cup of sugar

1 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

1 cup of milk

2 eggs

Combine all of the items and mix it up well. Put into a greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 to 40 minutes. or until done , stick a knife or a toothpick in and if it comes out clean , the cake is done.

I found out which one of my post on this blog is for all time. The one with the most traffic is the one about Map Of Fault Lines In The USA. That is so wild. The next one in line at a huge distance is the one about Converting a Truck or a van into a camper.

Pretty cool to see what people are reading and searching for on this blog. What is your favorite blog post??? Search back through the archives to see if you missed anything that was written on here. You never know. You might have missed something really interesting or important.

I hope to have even more to write about in the coming new year. WOW! 2012! What a year this is going to be. If things happen like people predict , we have a presidential election, and tons of other stuff. This is going to be a big year. I hope it is better than the last couple of years. I really hope that good things happen and that a lot of the predictions do not happen at all. But, just in case, we all need to be prepared for anything and everything. Get everything in order. Get right with God!!
