This is actually kind of funny! I had a bucket of potting soil outside and brought in inside - was thinking I might need it. I like to start seeds indoors etc - well come to find out , my son, had dropped a tiny potato into the bucket of dirt a couple of weeks ago!! It is actually growing (sprouting?). My son thinks it is so funny. Is it actually growing to where we would get some more tiny potatoes?? It was one of those gemstone potatoes from Walmart. haha

This DIY survival kit can be made with inexpensive supplies and a simple metal coffee can. Make sure the coffee can you are using for your survival kit is modified to be a wood stove also. This simple but efficient survival kit is best for if you break down in an uninhabited area while driving your car. This kit is also ideal for a day trip for hiking, camping, or exploring outdoors. We have a list below of the recommended survival gear to put into your kit.
The coffee I buy doesn't come in a metal can so I will use a #10 can that I have left from some food storage.
I have spent the day sewing up some homemade microwaveable heating pads for some Christmas gifts. Very easy and quick to make! You have to use 100% cotton fabric and I filled them up with rice.
Take two pieces of fabric that are approx. 12 inches by 15inches and sew them with the right sides facing each other on 3 sides. Turn them right side out and then measure every 2 inches. I used a fabric pencil to make the lines. Sew them leaving about an inch at the end. Fill each tunnel with rice. Then sew the end shut neatly.
That is it!
Place them on a microwave safe plate and into the microwave for about 1 minute 30 seconds. Use the warm pad on your sore back or whatever ache you have.

I have been thinking about how to secure my home the last several weeks. Really worried about the huge windows I have. Sometimes you just have to have quick rice. This is great to have on hand when you can just boil water. Camping recipes can be more filling with rice. This is an easy way to make some rice be a fast meal.
Cook the rice up like it says to on the package. Place the warm rice into your Food Dehydrator , using the Dehydrator Sheets Round Dehydrators Fruit Roll Up Fruit Leather Circle ReUsable Flexible Non Stick Sheets. Spreading the rice out as well as you can. Dehydrate at 135 degrees for at least 5 to 7 hours. Every once in while stir the rice around to separate the grains. Dry them until they ping when you drop them onto the counter. Let them cool and store them in an air tight container.
Using it in recipes is super quick and it stores very well.

I just had to share this. I buy way too many Kitchen Cleaning Sponges for washing dishes. I am going to try and make a few of these. Be a great way to save some money.
Not an easy way to talk about this , but everyone has to "go" sometime. If there is an emergency situation, like no power or no way to have running water, then you have to have an easy way to be able to "go". I keep a bucket with Emergency Zone Brand Honey Bucket Emergency Toilet Seat in my garage. Have toilet paper and some wipes. Disinfectant wipes are a great way to clean up hands and the seat. Save any bag you get from the grocery store etc to use inside the bucket for easier cleanup. Kitty litter will help also.
Having many ways to have clean water is a MUST!
Have a water filter system and other ways to use in an emergency.
I Made my own system from watching a Youtube video. Just used 2 buckets and a Berkey Water System Replacement Filters. Not too hard. I bought some silver spray paint thinking that I would paint them to make them kind of look better, but I like the buckets as they are - they have measurements down the sides.

There are so many ways to have lights off-grid or during a power outage. One of my favorites is to use kerosene lamps. I have so many of them. Plus I inherited a few from my dad.
