What I Have Learned While Town On Boil Water Advisory!

This has been a great learning experience. Having a boil water advisory all week. That is so funny to say that, but it is true. I am kind of glad that this happened. Now I can learn from it and see what I need to do, what I need to get, and what can be done to make it better!!

OK first off - I need to stock up on more disposable products , like paper plates, disposable utensils, etc. This is the one thing that I have been having trouble with - Having to figure out how to wash the dishes. LOL The boiling of water is no fun and then it is too hot and I burned my hand the first time I did so dishes the other day. Does not feel good at all. Which is another thing that I learned - I need one of those HUGE stockpots for boiling water in for dishes. Right now I am having to use 2 of my soup pots , which are big, but not big enough for something like this.

Luckily we never drank our city water anyway. So I have plenty of bottled water for drinking and cooking with. I had some bottled water to that had been put into soda bottles etc from the tap that I just have on hand for emergencies. I have 3 of them sitting out in the sun to get hot for washing hands etc. Everything seems to be working out alright. Just the having to wash dishes is what is bothering me. But other than that we are fine I really think that it would be tons worse if the water was not on at all. Then we would have to worry about sanitation stuff. Like being able to flush the toilet is great, but if we had no water at all it would be a lot worse. Would have to figure out something for that. Free Solar Book

Food Storage Recipe Idea (tip)

This is just a short tip - Use the taco flavored TVP in your Hamburger Helper, especially the cheeseburger one. I just made it for us lunch and it was really good. Cut up some of our tomatoes to eat with it. Really a great idea. There are so many frugal ways that you can make a great meal that will make your family full and that they will enjoy. Eating food storage doesn't have to be boring or have no taste. You can have other things , not just beans! Just use your imagination and find things that can be added to your food storage that will be exciting and new.

Food Storage Recipe - Spicy "Cheeseburger" Nachos

This is another great recipe that I found in a magazine and turned it into some thing that uses what I have in my food storage. I sub the ground beef with my ground beef flavored TVP. You have to put equal amounts of the TVP and boiling water to make it up. Then I kind of keep it in the pan for a couple of minutes longer to kind of give it a "fried" texture. Cut a box or 2 of prepared cheese product that is Mexican style into cubes and add to the meat. (Velveeta Mexican, Mild) Melt it all together. Depends on how much you are wanting to make. I can use 1 box and it be enough for the 4 of us to munch on while watching movies. If you like it really spicy - you can also add a can or 2 of diced tomatoes with green chilis to this while it is melting. Right before you serve it add some diced green onion. Serve this with tortilla chips. USE GROUND BEEF IF YOU WANT TO.
