Food Storage Recipe - Green Salsa Soup

This is something a bit different! I want to share recipes that can be made from items that are most likely in your stockpile and are something different. That way your tastebuds are having something unique every once in while and not just having beans!

Green Salsa Soup

1 pound of cubed chicken breast - I always buy those bag of chicken breast and have plenty in my freezer to make stuff with. OR you can use the canned chicken. Which is something that you should tons of in your stockpile. (tuna, ham, and other canned meats too!)

4 cups of canned black beans - but this recipe is great in that you can use any canned bean that you have.

1 16 ounce jar of salsa verde

3 cups of chicken broth

Cook up the chicken chunks. Add the beans, DRAINED. Add the salsa verde and the broth. . Bring this all to a boil and then simmer for about 15 minutes.

This is a great soup that can be eaten with a lot of stuff. A salad. Or doctor it up with sour cream and shredded cheese. You can also use this as a base recipe and mix it up a bit by using Pace Salsa instead of the green salsa verde.

Tips On How To Save On Gas

There are some simple ways to conserve your gas usage.

Keep up the maitanence on your vehicle. Proper oil changes, check tire pressure, tune ups, etc.

Plan your trips. Do all of your shopping and other items all on one day and map out your trip. This way you are doing it all at once and not going out of your way to get to someplace that will use up your gas.

Drive the speed limit!! Do not be over aggressive while driving.

Watch idling.

Make sure that there is not any extra weight in your vehicle.

Maybe create a carpool for taking kids to school, picking them up, or for work.

Just remember that every little bit helps. I am going to fill up my gas cans now while gas is $3.45 in my town. That way this summer when gas is up to over $4.00 I will already have my gas for mowing the lawn. LOL Also since it is not too cold I try to walk places as much as possible. I am also looking into getting a bike.

Gas Buddy really does help and you can check it to see where the cheapest gas is at in your town.

Solar Lights At Dollar Tree!!!

Went on my monthly trek to The Dollar Tree and imagine my surprise when I seen solar lights! I , unfortunately , only bought 3 of them! I was scared that maybe they would not work good and I did not want to go over my budget. I am so surprised at how well they do actually work. Even better than the ones I bought from an online store for $20.00!!! I am going to go back this weekend and hope that they have any left. I have one right now in my flower pot in the kitchen and it worked awesome as a night light. GREAT!! I will place them outside and they will charge during the day and then can bring them in for emergency lighting or for night lights. This is a great deal and if you have a Dollar Tree near you get to it today and see if they have the solar powered lights.
