Stockpile food , not gold

Just a short thought that I wanted to share. Everyone is talking about gold lately. Yeah it is good to have a bit on hand , but I really think that you should stockpile more food. What if there is rioting and violence around where you are?? How are you going to get to anywhere to use your gold to buy food? Have no fuel to drive anywhere to use the gold to buy anything that you need. Just more useful to stock up of food, medical supplies, tools, fuel, batteries, solar power, and anything else that can be traded. I really think that if things do get really bad , (like movie or book bad) food, coffee, and supplies will be more useful than gold.
Just my 2 cents. I might be wrong. I would love to hear what you all have to say about this.

Survivors: A Novel of the Coming Collapse

I am patiently waiting on my copy to come in the mail!!

Product Description
WHAT IF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT ENDED TOMORROW?
The America we are accustomed to is no more. Practically overnight the stock market has plummeted, hyperinflation has crippled commerce, and the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure have fallen. The power grids are down. Brutal rioting and looting grip every major city. The volatile era known as “the Crunch” has begun, and this new period in our history will leave no one untouched. In this unfamiliar environment, only a handful of individuals are equipped to survive.

Andrew Laine, a resourceful young U.S. Army officer stationed overseas in Afghanistan, wants nothing more than to return home to Bloomfield, New Mexico. With the world in turmoil and all air and sea traffic to America suspended, Laine must rely on his own ingenuity and the help of good Samaritans to reach his family. Andrew will do whatever it takes to make it home to his fiancée, no matter how difficult the circumstances.

Major Ian Doyle is a U.S. Air Force pilot sta-tioned in Arizona with his wife, Blanca. Their young daughter, Linda, is trapped in the North- eastern riots. Three teenage orphans, Shadrach, Reuben, and Matthew Phelps, have no choice but to set out on their own when their orphanage closes at the beginning of the Crunch. Then there is Ignacio Garcia, the ruthless leader of the criminal gang called La Fuerza, who will stop at nothing to amass an army capable of razing the countryside. And over everything looms the threat of a provisional government, determined to take over America and destroy the freedoms upon which it was built. The world of Survivors is a terrifyingly familiar one. Rawles has written a novel so close to the truth, readers will forget it’s fiction. If everything you thought you knew suddenly fell apart, would you survive?

Had A Scare - Makes Me Rethink Everything.

For some reason when I got online this morning to check how much the direct deposit was for my husbands paycheck there was nothing showing up. The online banking information was all messed up and was showing 0.00 for everything - even though I knew there was money in there before the payday!! Scared me so bad. I kept refreshing the page and signing in and out! Every Friday for over 1 year there has been a direct deposit in our bank at midnight and I am upat 5 am every morning so I get online on Friday's early to check. This went on until 7:30 this morning. It even had a page that was popping by then saying that there was a problem with our bank account and to call this 800#!! I was freaking out by then and called my husband who is in Kansas right now. He was worried too. So we were like well we can't do anything until the bank opens at 9:30. So I waited a bit and got on my son's computer and there was a notice on the bank site then that said there had been a glitch and everyone's online banking was now working and the direct deposit was now showing up!! But for the little bit I was in a panic and realized how stupid we are for having everything in the bank and with no way to have cash on had if something were to really happen. NOW I am going to make sure that I only leave the car payment in the bank and the rest of the money is coming out. We rely too much on the bank. MY husband is going to find out today if there is some way that they can pay him another way so that we will have cash. He does not think that there is. He thinks they only pay with direct deposit. But he is going to ask. If there isn't I guess, I will have to get to the bank ATM as early as possible to take out every thing in there.

UPDATE: IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THEIR ONLINE BANKING??? NOW OUR BANKS WEBSITE IS DOWN ALL OF THE WAY!!! NOTHING!!!! CRAZY.
