Potatoes Growing Indoors...

This is actually kind of funny! I had a bucket of potting soil outside and brought in inside - was thinking I might need it. I like to start seeds indoors etc - well come to find out , my son, had dropped a tiny potato into the bucket of dirt a couple of weeks ago!! It is actually growing (sprouting?). My son thinks it is so funny. Is it actually growing to where we would get some more tiny potatoes?? It was one of those gemstone potatoes from Walmart. haha

DIY Coffee Can Survival Kit - Survival Supplies List

DIY Coffee Can Survival Kit - Survival Supplies List

This DIY survival kit can be made with inexpensive supplies and a simple metal coffee can. Make sure the coffee can you are using for your survival kit is modified to be a wood stove also. This simple but efficient survival kit is best for if you break down in an uninhabited area while driving your car. This kit is also ideal for a day trip for hiking, camping, or exploring outdoors. We have a list below of the recommended survival gear to put into your kit.

The coffee I buy doesn't come in a metal can so I will use a #10 can that I have left from some food storage.

Making More Gifts!!

I have spent the day sewing up some homemade microwaveable heating pads for some Christmas gifts. Very easy and quick to make! You have to use 100% cotton fabric and I filled them up with rice.

Take two pieces of fabric that are approx. 12 inches by 15inches and sew them with the right sides facing each other on 3 sides. Turn them right side out and then measure every 2 inches. I used a fabric pencil to make the lines. Sew them leaving about an inch at the end. Fill each tunnel with rice. Then sew the end shut neatly.

That is it!

Place them on a microwave safe plate and into the microwave for about 1 minute 30 seconds. Use the warm pad on your sore back or whatever ache you have.

Organize Your Food Storage

Now is the most important time to organize your food storage. Get it together!! Use a notebook and write down everything and how many of each you have. With all of the food shortages coming and supply chain breaking - you have got to know what you really need and get it as soon as you can before it is out where you shop! Don't wait until the last minute. Spend the next few days just organizing and tracking what you have and then you will know what you need. Several recipes that I make use specific items and I know that the next time I go shopping I am going to just focus on those items. Don't worry about space in your home or making a mess....Having food for your family to eat is much more important than if your house is all put together. You can tell by my photo that I am just trying to stack it full , then I will get it all cleaned up. It is organized in my notebook , I promise. There are a few more shelves like this in my kitchen that are full.

You can clean later when you have it all!!

THE SHELVING I USE IS LDAILY Heavy Duty 5 Tier Plastic Storage Rack,Multi-Use Free Standing Shelf Unit, Easy to Assemble, Black (1, 28“L X 15”W X 67“H) in black and white. Check around for them on sale. I got mine on sale , not sure where. I am wanting to say that I ordered them off of Amazon. I usually buy everything from Amazon.

Securing A Home

I have been thinking about how to secure my home the last several weeks. Really worried about the huge windows I have. Would really love to get something like these Window Bar Guard or even figure out a way to do it myself. There are Security Motion Lights on the back of my house. Need some on the front.

Really want some things that I can do myself and not cost an arm and a leg! Really want to figure out somehow to secure garage door when not in use. I open it a lot. But would love to have an idea of a way to secure it if bugging in and then would not be using it. I would think.

I have these Portable Door Lock for every door. They are inexpensive and do work at keeping the door shut.

ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

DIY Quick Rice

Sometimes you just have to have quick rice. This is great to have on hand when you can just boil water. Camping recipes can be more filling with rice. This is an easy way to make some rice be a fast meal.

Cook the rice up like it says to on the package. Place the warm rice into your Food Dehydrator , using the Dehydrator Sheets Round Dehydrators Fruit Roll Up Fruit Leather Circle ReUsable Flexible Non Stick Sheets. Spreading the rice out as well as you can. Dehydrate at 135 degrees for at least 5 to 7 hours. Every once in while stir the rice around to separate the grains. Dry them until they ping when you drop them onto the counter. Let them cool and store them in an air tight container.

Using it in recipes is super quick and it stores very well.

DIY Reusable Sponges // Unsponges - Zero Waste Kitchen Scrubbers Tutorial ⋆ Hello Sewing

I just had to share this. I buy way too many Kitchen Cleaning Sponges for washing dishes. I am going to try and make a few of these.  Be a great way to save some money.

Emergency Bathroom ...

Not an easy way to talk about this , but everyone has to "go" sometime. If there is an emergency situation, like no power or no way to have running water, then you have to have an easy way to be able to "go". I keep a bucket with Emergency Zone Brand Honey Bucket Emergency Toilet Seat in my garage. Have toilet paper and some wipes. Disinfectant wipes are a great way to clean up hands and the seat. Save any bag you get from the grocery store etc to use inside the bucket for easier cleanup. Kitty litter will help also.

You Have To Have Clean Water!

Wild Survival | water

Having many ways to have clean water is a MUST!

Have a water filter system and other ways to use in an emergency.

I Made my own system from watching a Youtube video. Just used 2 buckets and a  Berkey Water System Replacement Filters. Not too hard. I bought some silver spray paint thinking that I would paint them to make them kind of look better, but I like the buckets as they are - they have measurements down the sides.

Something to put in my notebook to make. I love DIY and this could really be useful.

I used to know a woman that was totally off-grid and had been for years. She had one of these sitting on the sun facing side of her house and a dryer vent pipe set up that went into her front window and the heat would just flow in. It was awesome. Her house was bigger then mine is now , so I bet it would really warm mine up...

Having Lights In A Power Outage

There are so many ways to have lights off-grid or during a power outage. One of my favorites is to use kerosene lamps. I have so many of them. Plus I inherited a few from my dad. This was one that he had sitting in his living room! Still sitting there and I use it a lot. He made this one out of a Mason jar. He just used one of these Oil LAMP Burner kit that just screws onto the Mason jar. Super easy way to have a kerosene lamp.

Unpaper Towel DIY (They Are Reuseable!) - A Beautiful Mess

Unpaper Towel DIY (They Are Reuseable!) - A Beautiful Mess The last time I went to the grocery store the paper towels were in low supply. I have a bunch stocked up, but it will run out eventually - so I am going to make some more of these!!

Keep Warm Without Power

Luckily I live in a small house. Just a hair over being a tiny. I have one of these set ups sitting on my coffee table in my living room. Over the archway to the kitchen I have curtains so I can close it off to keep the heat in the living room and light this flower Clay Pot radiant heater. There is actually heat coming off of this. Most likely would not HEAT the room , but it is enough warmth to keep from freezing and keeps my electric heater from kicking on and staying on. Right now I am just using these Tea Light Candles , But I am in the process of making some mason jar Crisco candles. They will burn longer and hopefully make a bit more heat. Want to have one for my bathroom and utility room. Would really help in an emergency.
